Team / PLC expectations
During the 2019-2020 school year, each teacher is expected to schedule and attend three (3) half-day sessions with their team or as an individual. Below are the expectations for the sessions:
Before the session ...
Before your team arrives for a session to design a new unit or project, you will need to accomplish the following two things (possible from a PLC meeting):
1. Define the problem/objectives:
2. Research the needs:
1. Define the problem/objectives:
- What is it that we are designing/redesigning?
- What are our opportunities for growth from previous implementation?
2. Research the needs:
- What are the standards (contents and skills) that we are covering?
During the session ...
During the design session expect to follow an agenda similar to the following:
Briefing the Design Center team on work from before the Design session (about 30 min)
Brainstorming (45-60 min):
Planning (60-90 min):
Briefing the Design Center team on work from before the Design session (about 30 min)
Brainstorming (45-60 min):
- What can we come up with and what qualities (Schlechty’s 10) do they cover? Remember that there is no bad idea (this is a safe environment).
- What is the final decision on the idea that will be used?
Planning (60-90 min):
- How will the lesson be organized for implementation?
- What do we need to do to implement the design (put together briefs, rubrics, calendars, schedule facilities, etc.)?
After the session ...
After the session you should be ready to deploy the design. Keep in mind the following items below as you implement:
- What support will be needed for implementation?
- How did the students communicate their level of engagement (did you create a survey)?
- Upon reflection, what will we need to be aware of for a future redesign?
